Free Museums to Visit in Brighton, England


I enjoy going to museums and love it even more when admission is free. Like London, Brighton is home to some free museums and galleries that are worth visiting. Everyone should check them out when visiting this seaside city.

Hove Museum and Art Gallery
Housing one of the United Kingdom’s most impressive displays of crafts and the magical Wizards Attic, Hove Museum and Art Gallery is a good local museum for visitors, especially for the young ones. It has an amazing collection of old toys and exhibitions that celebrate Hove’s rich history as a haven of early British film-makers.

Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri & Sat 10am-5pm
Sunday 2-5pm
Wednesday - closed
Closed from 24 to 28 December and on 1 January

Brighton Fishing Museum
Located a few minutes’walk westward along the boardwalk from Brighton Pier, the Brighton Fishing Museum provides visitors with a nice introduction to the history of Brighton as a fishing village. It houses collections and memorabilia that will take you to the seaside city’s “fishy” past. There are hundreds of old photographs, artifacts, paintings, including a traditional fishing boat. This small free museum is run by volunteers and admission is free of charge and open 7 days a week.

Booth Museum of Natural History

The Booth Museum prides itself in having a wide array of natural history specimens on display, which include birds, butterflies, fossils, and well-preserved skeletons that date back three centuries. This free museum in Brighton even has some interactive displays that kids and kids-at-heart will surely enjoy.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday - 10am-5pm
Thursday - closed
Friday and Saturday 10am-5pm
Sunday - 2pm-5pm
Closed from 24 to 28 December and on 1 January.

Exhibitions at Jubilee Library
The Jubilee Library is home to free, open-to-the-public exhibitions that are worth seeing. Displays are on show at foyer, window, and the Reading Room, all of which are accessible during library hours.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday - 10am-7pm
Wednesday, Friday, Saturday - 10am-5pm
